Helping those with visual impairments was the very FIRST initiative that Lions Clubs championed, since the beginning in 1917. Since then, the passion has grown, incorporating four other areas of service. Covington Lions Club began offering community Vision Screening in 2019. Use the contact form below and schedule a FREE screening for your school, church, daycare, senior center, or other group TODAY!
It's Quick and Easy! Examples Of Kids With and Without Glasses:
Screening a child WITHOUT glasses- about 20 seconds when difficult to find their pupils
|
Screening a child WITH glasses- often takes a few seconds longer, but sometimes is very quick-about 8 seconds

OUR VISION SCREENING PROJECT
The Covington Lions Club purchased our first Welch Allyn SPOT Vision Screener in 2019. We got our feet wet by providing vision screening to local church pre-schools with very good success which led to 2020, when we purchased our second Spot Screener with the intention of being able to spread our wings and provide screening to all schools, public and private. We had success and slowly started to grow an annual screening for a couple of churches. Then, COVID CAME TO TOWN AND THE WORLD STOPPED.
Three years later, the Club has expanded its screenings, and now has an agreement with Newton County Public Schools to do checks in elementary schools across the county!
Since 2014, the Welch Allyn Spot VS100s-B (image below) is known to be the best portable Vision Screener on the market. The screening is fast, silent, easy to do, there is no contact with the person being screened, and under ideal conditions, a screening can take as little as 10 seconds. Once the screening is complete, we can provide a PDF file to the person in charge, and you can have your screening results printed out in color.
We have completed Vision Screening for the following organizations in the Covington area:
- Church Pre-Schools Public High Schools in Rockdale
- Private Schools Public High Schools in Gwinnett
- Back to School Events Public Elementary Schools in Walton
- Senior Centers
In addition, in 2021 the Covington Lions Club purchased a new Electronic Brallier for a local blind kindergarten student. Please click on the document link to see how this device has helped her to learn how to read, write and communicate.
If you know of a business, school, organization, church, pre-school, or other company that may be interested in a demonstration or presentation, please send us a message below and we will be pleased to discuss this with them.
