Covington Lions Club is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization
Since 2019, the Covington Lions Club has focused on VISION and glasses-related needs in our community! There is one very special project we started working with in 2022. Kennedy has become an honorary member of our club and we are very proud of her accomplishments! Because of a Lions vision screening, Kennedy has really thrived, and is now a national award-winner for braille readers! She has proven to us that "Where there is a will, there is a way!" After we have our banquet dinner, we have an award ceremony and present the Melvin Jones Award. This is the highest award a Lion can receive; the award is named after Melvin Jones, the man that started the Lions in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois. This year the Award was presented to: Lion Roger Pflug and Lion Frank Jensen.

The Covington Lions Club was chartered in 1952, sponsored by the Oxford, GA Lions Club. Lion President Neal Banks led the club in building an open-air pavilion on the site of Academy Springs Park, located at the intersection of Conyers St. and Legion Dr. Later, the pavilion was enclosed and HVAC was added to make a year-round meeting home for the Covington Lions. |
The first major fund raiser was a chicken BBQ. This tradition is still carried on every year on the second Wednesday in April. As time went on, other fund raisers including a pancake supper in October and a Chili supper in February were added.
For many years, the Covington Lions have organized the Covington Christmas Parade in December. Lions work at the parade in many different volunteer areas. This is only an example of how the Covington Lions interact with the community, as Lions participate in MANY different ways when the community has a need- because WE SERVE!

While Lions began as an organization championing vision issues, Lions International has recently developed EIGHT INITIATIVES that Lions Clubs worldwide support in their communities. These initiatives include VISION, HUNGER, ENVIRONMENT, DIABETES, CHILDHOOD CANCER, YOUTH, DISASTER RELIEF and HUMANITARIAN ISSUES. We also collect eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones.
ALL LIONS are very embedded in their local communities. Lions International is the largest service organization in the WORLD. We have 1.39 million members and 49,305 clubs. If you want to belong to an organization that wants to improve its local community and improve the lives of people you see every day, please consider joining the Covington Lions Club! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave us a message, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible! WE SERVE! |
